The Goldfish Who Chased Lightning

Mia's pet goldfish Finny lived in a blue glass bowl on her nightstand. He was small and orange, with fins that shimmered like tiny rainbows. But Finny had a big dream—he wanted to fly.

Every night, Finny would swim to the surface and blow bubbles at the window, watching the storm clouds roll by. "You're a fish, Finny," Mia would giggle, tapping the glass. "Fish don't fly!"

But Finny never stopped dreaming.

One evening, Mia's dad brought home an old telephone cable from work. It was long and curly, with colorful wires inside. Mia took it to her room, twisting it around her chair and bedposts until her whole room looked like a spider's web.

"It's a cable car!" she declared. Then she had an idea. She tied one end of the cable to Finny's bowl handle and made the other end into a loop.

Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky—CRACK! BOOM! The whole house shook. Purple and pink sparks rained down, landing right on Finny's bowl.

WHOOSH!

Finny's bowl began to rise! The cable pulled it up, up, UP—right out the open window and into the stormy sky!

"Finny!" Mia cried, grabbing the cable. But it pulled her too, lifting her into the clouds.

They soared through the lightning, which wasn't scary at all. It was beautiful—dancing ribbons of golden light. Finny swam in mid-air inside his magical floating bowl, chasing every spark.

"I knew I could fly!" Finny bubbled, and somehow Mia understood.

They rode the cable through the storm until they reached a castle made of clouds. A wizard with a beard like cotton candy greeted them. "You found the Lightning Cable," he said. "It only appears for those who believe in impossible dreams."

He gave Finny a special glowing scale. "Now you can fly anytime," he said. "But remember—true magic isn't about flying. It's about never giving up on your dreams."

WHOOSH again! They were back in Mia's room. The cable was just an old telephone cord again. But Finny still had the glowing scale, and sometimes, when Mia looked closely, she could see Finny floating just above his bowl, chasing tiny sparks of his own.

"Dream big, little fish," Mia whispered, and Finny swished his tail, already planning his next adventure.
