The Goldfish Who Caught Lightning
Finn was no ordinary goldfish. While other fish swam in lazy circles, Finn spent his days pressing his nose against the glass of his fishbowl, watching the world beyond.
One evening, as storm clouds gathered like gray cotton balls, Finn noticed something peculiar. Each time lightning flashed across the sky, tiny sparks danced across his water's surface, shimmering like captured stars.
"I want to catch one," Finn whispered, though fish can't really whisper.
When his owner, a girl named Lily, opened her window to let in the cool breeze, a gust of wind tipped Finn's bowl. Splash! Finn tumbled out and landed in a puddle just as a bolt of lightning struck a nearby pond.
The water around Finn began to glow golden. He wasn't afraid. Instead, he felt something wonderful—magic! The lightning had transformed the puddle into a portal. Finn swam faster than ever before, his scales turning rainbow-bright.
In the magical water, he met other creatures who had been touched by storm magic: a frog who could sing opera, a dragonfly who painted pictures with sunlight, and a wise old turtle who shared ancient secrets about courage.
"True magic isn't caught," the turtle told Finn. "It's found when you're brave enough to explore beyond your bowl."
As the storm passed, the magic faded. Lily found Finn and gently returned him to his freshly cleaned fishbowl. But Finn had changed. His scales now sparkled with tiny lightning patterns, and he no longer pressed his nose against the glass.
Instead, he swam with purpose, telling fantastical stories to the other fish in Lily's room. And every time it stormed, Finn would swim to the surface, waiting for magic to visit again.
Sometimes the most wonderful adventures find us when we're brave enough to splash into something new.
