The Goldfish Who Caught Lightning

Emma peered into her fishbowl, where Fin swam in endless circles. The little goldfish with orange scales like tiny sunset clouds had been her friend since her birthday last month.

"I wish you could talk," Emma whispered, tapping the glass.

Fin darted to the surface and blew a perfect bubble that popped with a spark.

That night, a storm rattled Emma's window. Lightning flashed again and again, painting her room in bright white flashes. Suddenly, a glowing blue cable snaked through the window and coiled around the fishbowl like a magical rope.

Emma sat up, gasping. The cable pulsed with light, connecting her fishbowl to the stormy sky outside. And then the impossible happened—Fin leaped out of the water, caught a bolt of lightning through the glass, and SWALLOWED IT WHOLE.

His scales glowed golden bright. Fin swam to the surface and spoke in a voice like raindrops. "Emma, my friend, lightning gives me magic powers for one hour. What wish shall I grant?"

Emma's neighbor, old Mr. Henderson, stumbled in the dark outside. His power cable had snapped in the storm, and he needed electricity for his medical equipment.

"Help Mr. Henderson!" Emma cried.

Fin swam furiously. Through the magical cable, he sent lightning racing down the street. Mr. Henderson's lights flickered on.

"Thank you!" the old man called, waving at Emma's window.

The storm passed. The glowing cable vanished into mist. Fin's golden glow faded, but he smiled with fishy lips.

"True friends help each other," Fin said. "And you, Emma, are the best friend a goldfish could wish for."

Emma touched the glass gently. "And you're the best friend I could imagine, magical or not."

From that night on, every lightning storm meant adventure— Emma and Fin, working together to help others, one magical spark at a time.
