The Goldfish Spy Detective
Lily had a secret. Her pet goldfish, Finny, wasn't just a regular fish. He was a spy!
Every night when Lily slept, Finny would swim out of his bowl and go on special missions. He wore a tiny spy hat made of paper and carried a magnifying glass fashioned from a bent paperclip.
One Tuesday, Finny returned from his mission looking worried. He made little bubbles that spelled out: HELP. MY FRIEND. ZOMBIE.
Lily sat up straight. "A zombie? For real?"
Finny nodded his fishy head and blew more bubbles: NOT REAL ZOMBIE. JUST TIRED. NEEDS HELP.
The next morning, Lily followed Finny's directions to the old house next door. There she found Mrs. Higgins walking slowly, her eyes half-closed, shuffling like a zombie.
"I feel so tired," Mrs. Higgins sighed. "I haven't been eating right."
Lily remembered what her mom said about vitamins. "Mrs. Higgins, do you take vitamins?"
Mrs. Higgins shook her head slowly. "I keep forgetting to buy them."
Lily rushed home and returned with her mom's vitamin basket. "Here! These will help!"
Mrs. Higgins took the vitamins every day. Within a week, she was dancing in her garden and baking cookies for the neighborhood children.
Finny the goldfish spy swam proudly in his bowl, his spy hat tilted at a jaunty angle. Lily smiled and fed him a pinch of fish food.
"You're the best spy ever, Finny," she whispered.
Finny winked. Being a spy was important work, but helping friends was even better.
