The Goldfish's Secret Pyramid

Lily stared into the backyard pool, watching orange scales glint in the sunlight. Her goldfish, Finnegan, swam in lazy circles. But today felt different.

Finnegan stopped swimming and looked right at her. Bubbles escaped his mouth, forming tiny floating letters: H-E-L-P.

Lily gasped. "You can talk?"

More bubbles: N-O-T M-U-C-H T-I-M-E.

She knelt beside the water. "What do you need?"

Finnegan darted toward the deep end and suddenly disappeared. Where he'd vanished, something shimmered—a golden outline emerged from the water, growing larger and more solid. A pyramid.

But not just any pyramid. It rose from the pool's bottom, water cascading down its golden sides like liquid diamonds. Lightning bugs danced around its peak, even though it was daytime.

Finnegan appeared at the top, now wearing a tiny crown. "Thank you for believing, Lily."

"You're huge!" she cried.

"In the pyramid, anything is possible." His voice sounded like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for a friend who could see beyond the ordinary."

Lily noticed the pyramid had doors made of pearl. Inside, she glimpsed rooms filled with floating books and singing crystals.

"Will you come inside?" Finnegan asked. "There's a whole world beneath the water's surface—libraries of fish stories, ballrooms where dolphins dance, and gardens where coral flowers bloom forever."

Lily's heart raced. "But I can't breathe underwater."

"True friends find ways together." Finnegan waved his fin, and a pearl bubble floated toward her. "Step inside. The pyramid protects those with pure hearts."

Just as Lily reached for the bubble, her mother called from the house: "Lily! Time for dinner!"

The pyramid began to fade. Finnegan blew more bubbles: V-I-S-I-T M-E A-N-Y-T-I-M-E. The crown disappeared, and he shrank back to his goldfish size, swimming normal circles again.

Lily smiled, dipping her fingers in the water. "I'll be back tomorrow, Finnegan."

He swam to her hand and nudged it with his nose. Some friends are small. Some friends are magical. The best friends are both.
