The Goldfish's Secret Pyramid
Seven-year-old Lily stared at her orange goldfish, Finnick, swimming in his glass bowl. "What do you do all day in there?" she whispered, pressing her palm against the cool glass.
To her amazement, Finnick swam right up to her hand and spoke in a bubbly voice, "I'm a magical goldfish! I can take you on adventures if you're brave enough."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "Really? But I'm not brave at all. I'm scared of the dark, and thunderstorms, and even my shadow sometimes."
Finnick smiled (which goldfish can do when they're magical). "That's okay! I have something special — a vitamin of courage! Just one magical bubble each day, and you'll be brave enough for anything."
Lily nodded eagerly. Finnick blew a shimmering golden bubble that floated into the air and popped right onto her nose. A warm, tingling feeling spread through her, like sunshine wrapped around her heart.
"Now," said Finnick, "imagine something wonderful, and I'll take us there!"
Lily closed her eyes and thought of her favorite place — the beach. When she opened them, she gasped. They were standing beside a towering palm tree, its green fronds waving in a warm breeze. Sparkling blue water stretched to the horizon, and white sand glowed like diamonds.
"Build something magical," Finnick encouraged.
Lily began scooping sand with both hands, building it higher and higher. She worked all afternoon, creating the most magnificent pyramid she could imagine, with smooth sides and a pointed top. It was taller than she was!
"Now for the magic," Finnick whispered. "Place your hand on top and make a wish."
Lily reached up and pressed her palm against the pyramid's peak. "I wish to be brave forever," she said softly.
The sand pyramid began to glow, turning golden and warm. A wonderful feeling filled Lily — not just courage, but also kindness, curiosity, and joy. She understood that being brave meant being kind to others too.
When Lily opened her eyes, she was back in her room, Finnick swimming peacefully in his bowl. But something had changed. She felt different, stronger inside.
The next day at school, when new boy Marcus dropped his lunch tray and everyone laughed, Lily didn't giggle. Instead, she helped him pick up his apple. That night, Finnick gave her another vitamin bubble — this one sparkling with rainbow colors.
"For kindness," he explained. "The bravest thing you can do is be kind when others aren't."
Lily smiled, pressing her palm against the glass. "I think I have a lot of adventures ahead of me."
Finnick swam a happy loop. "And I'll be right here with you, Lily. Every bubble, every wish, every day."
