The Goldfish's Secret Portal
Lily found the old iPhone half-buried in the sand near the playground pyramid. It looked ancient, with a cracked screen and buttons she'd never seen before. But when she pressed them, the screen didn't show apps or games—it showed swirling water.
Inside the water swam a tiny goldfish with scales like sunset clouds. "Hello," said the goldfish, and Lily nearly dropped the phone. "I'm Finn. I've been waiting for someone with an imagination like yours."
Lily looked around. The other kids were playing on the pyramid-shaped slide, but none of them noticed her magical phone. "You can talk?"
"I can do more than talk," Finn said. "Place me in your palm and make a wish. But it has to be a true wish—from your heart."
Lily cupped the phone in her palm. She closed her eyes and thought about how she wanted to see real magic, not just pretend games. The phone grew warm. Water bubbled up around her fingers, cool and sparkling like liquid stars.
Suddenly, Lily wasn't standing on the playground anymore. She was inside the phone, floating beside Finn in a vast ocean that glowed with swirling colors.
"Where are we?" Lily whispered.
"The space between worlds," Finn said. "Follow me!" He swam toward a magnificent golden pyramid rising from the water's depths. Its sides shimmered with runes that shifted and changed.
Inside the pyramid, they found gardens where flowers sang and trees bore fruits that sparkled like jewels. But the most amazing thing was the Hall of Dreams—a room where children's wishes floated like glowing bubbles.
"Every wish you've ever made is here," Finn said. "The best ones are the ones you make for others."
Lily saw wishes for toys and candy, but also wishes for sick parents to get better, for lonely friends to find companions, for the world to be kinder.
"Your turn," Finn said. "What's your true wish?"
Lily thought about all the kids who'd never believe her story. "I wish everyone could see this magic—even just for a moment."
Finn smiled, and his scales flared brilliant orange. "That's the best wish of all."
The next thing Lily knew, she was back on the playground, the old iPhone in her palm. The screen was dark now. But all around her, kids were stopping and staring at the sky, where rainbows had suddenly appeared.
"Did you see that?" a boy asked, eyes wide.
Lily smiled and slipped the phone into her pocket. Magic was real, and now everyone knew.
