The Goldfish's Secret Pool
Lily loved spending time beneath the old palm tree in her backyard. Its long leaves danced in the wind, whispering secrets to anyone who listened. She would lie on the grass beneath it, dreaming of magical worlds.
One hot summer afternoon, Lily sat under the palm tree eating a juicy orange. The sweet juice dripped down her chin as she peeled the fruit. Something glimmered near the tree's roots.
She peeked closer and gasped! Hidden among the roots was a tiny pool she had never noticed before. The water sparkled like diamonds, and swimming inside was the most beautiful goldfish she had ever seen.
"Hello!" said the goldfish.
Lily nearly dropped her orange. "You can talk?"
"Of course," said the goldfish, swimming to the edge. "I've been waiting for someone kind to find my secret pool. Would you like to be friends?"
Lily nodded eagerly. She broke off a piece of her orange and offered it to the goldfish, who nibbled it happily.
"This is delicious!" said the goldfish. "In return, I'll show you something magical."
The goldfish swam in circles, and the pool's water began to glow. Suddenly, the tiny pool expanded, becoming bigger and deeper. Lily watched in wonder as underwater flowers bloomed and colorful lights danced beneath the surface.
"This is the Pool of Dreams," said the goldfish. "It appears only for children with kind hearts. You can visit whenever you share your snacks with me."
Lily grinned and pushed her orange closer. "I have plenty!"
From that day on, Lily visited the goldfish every day. She learned that true magic wasn't about spells or potions—it was about kindness, friendship, and sharing what you have with others. The palm tree kept their secret safe, and the pool remained invisible to grown-ups who had forgotten how to dream.
Sometimes, if you look closely beneath a palm tree, you might still see a glimmer of magic—just waiting for a kind heart to find it.
