The Goldfish's Secret Game
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the backyard pond filled with sparkling fish. One sunny afternoon, she was playing baseball with her cousin when—oops!—her shiny new iphone slipped from her pocket and splashed into the water.
"Oh no!" Lily cried, peering into the rippling pond. But something magical happened. Through the clear water, she saw the phone glowing with rainbow light. And there, right next to it, was the most beautiful goldfish she had ever seen, with scales like tiny pearls.
The goldfish tapped the screen with its nose, and suddenly Lily could hear a tiny voice bubbling up through the water. "Hello, friend! I've been waiting for someone to drop this! My name is Finn, and I'm the captain of the Deep Blue Dodgers!"
"You're a... goldfish baseball player?" Lily whispered, her eyes wide with wonder.
"The best!" Finn said proudly. "We play at midnight every full moon. Our baseball is made of pearls, and we hit it with kelp bats into shells for home runs! But we need one more player for tonight's championship game. Would you like to join us?"
Lily couldn't believe her ears! She nodded eagerly. That night, under the silver moonlight, she sat by the pond holding her breath. Finn popped up to the surface and—WHOOSH!—suddenly Lily could breathe underwater, floating like she was made of bubbles.
Below the surface, an entire world appeared. Seaweed stadiums glowed with bioluminescence, and fish of every color were preparing for the big game. Finn handed Lily a bat made from the smoothest driftwood. "Remember," he whispered, "in underwater baseball, the most important thing isn't winning. It's playing with your whole heart and helping your teammates!"
The game was amazing! The pearl baseball floated through the water with a soft pearly glow. Lily hit it with all her might, and it sailed through clusters of giggling clownfish and past sleeping turtles. When she scored the winning run, all the fish cheered with bubbles that rose to the surface like tiny silver stars.
"You're part of our team forever now, Lily," Finn said, giving her a tiny high-five with his fin. "Whenever you miss baseball, just look through your iphone into the pond. We'll be here."
The next morning, Lily's iphone was dry as a bone, lying on the grass. But sometimes, when she looks through its camera at the pond, she can still see Finn waving, and she smiles, knowing that true friendship can swim through any depths—even between a girl and a goldfish.
