The Goldfish's Secret Game

Lily found the goldfish floating sideways in its bowl. "Oh no!" she cried. But then—SWISH! The fish wiggled its orange tail and swam upside down!

"I'm not sick," whispered the goldfish. "I'm magical!"

Lily gasped. "You can TALK?"

"Only on Tuesdays," said the goldfish. "And I have a secret. Follow me!"

The goldfish leaped RIGHT OUT of its bowl and flopped toward the garden. Lily chased after it, carrying a bowl of water just in case.

Behind the old oak tree, something shimmered. A golden sphinx with emerald eyes appeared!

"Welcome," purred the sphinx. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find us."

"Us?" Lily asked.

"My fish friend is my messenger," explained the sphinx. "Now, would you like to play padel with me?"

Lily's eyes widened. "What's padel?"

The sphinx waved her paw. POOF! A magical court appeared, and rackets appeared in their hands. They played the most wonderful game, laughing as the ball bounced off walls that changed colors!

When they finished, the sphinx smiled. "You have a kind heart, Lily. For playing with an old sphinx, I have a gift."

She touched Lily's forehead with a golden claw. "Now you can understand ALL creatures. Even the ones people think are scary."

Lily looked at the goldfish. "Is that why you came back? Mom said you were a..." She couldn't say the word.

"A zombie fish?" The goldfish giggled. "That's just what people call things they don't understand. I was only resting!"

Lily hugged the sphinx goodbye and carried her goldfish home. That night, she heard the crickets singing, the owl telling jokes, and even the spiders sharing bedtime stories.

Sometimes the scariest things are just the most magical ones, waiting for someone brave enough to understand them.
