The Goldfish's Secret Friend

Clementine the goldfish lived in a sparkly blue bowl on a sunny porch. Every day, she swam round and round, watching the world through her glass walls. Her favorite thing to see was the tall palm tree that swayed in the breeze outside.

One afternoon, something wonderful happened. A juicy orange rolled across the porch and bumped right into Clementine's bowl. *bump!* The orange's bright color made everything around it glow warm and golden.

Clementine swam closer to peer at the orange. Suddenly, she heard a scratchy voice behind her. "Hello there, little fish."

She turned and saw the most unusual creature! It was shaped like a person, but its skin was the color of autumn leaves and it moved slowly, slowly, slowly. It looked a little bit like a zombie, but instead of being scary, it had the kindest eyes Clementine had ever seen.

"I'm Zara," the creature said. "I'm a garden zombie. I wake up when magic fruit visits." She pointed at the orange. "That orange woke me up from my hundred-year nap!"

Clementine wasn't afraid at all. "Will you be my friend?"

Zara's leafy face broke into the biggest smile. "Yes! I've been so lonely sleeping in this garden all alone."

Every day after that, Clementine and Zara played together. Zara used her slow, steady hands to catch flies before they could bother Clementine. Clementine told Zara stories about all the things she could see from her bowl – birds, butterflies, and children playing.

The orange stayed beside the bowl, keeping its magical glow. It had brought together the most unlikely friends – a tiny goldfish and a gentle garden zombie.

Clementine learned something wonderful that summer: sometimes the things that seem different or strange can turn out to be the best friends of all. And sometimes, all it takes is one lucky orange to bring magic into your life.
