The Goldfish's Orange Portal

Lily loved her pet goldfish, Fin, more than anything. But what she didn't know was that Fin was no ordinary goldfish—he was a guardian of magical portals.

One afternoon, Lily's dad handed her his old iPhone. "Take some photos of Fin," he smiled.

Lily tapped the screen, but instead of a photo, something incredible happened. The screen began to glow like a tiny orange sun. Fin swam toward the glass, and suddenly—he wasn't in the bowl anymore. A shimmering orange light swirled around him, and Fin grew! He became the size of a cat, with scales that sparkled like sunset.

"Lily!" Fin spoke in a bubbly voice. "The Orange Portal has opened! We have an adventure waiting!"

Before Lily could speak, the iPhone's screen widened into a glowing doorway. She and Fin tumbled through into a world where everything was painted in shades of orange—orange trees, orange flowers, even orange clouds floating in a lavender sky.

"Welcome!" rumbled a deep voice. A huge bear emerged from behind an orange tree. But this wasn't a scary bear—his fur was the color of honey, and he wore a friendly smile. "I'm Barnaby, and I've been waiting for you."

Waiting for what? Lily wondered.

"The Great Bull needs help," said Barnaby, his gentle eyes worried. "He's forgotten how to dance."

They found the Great Bull in a meadow. He was magnificent—his coat was copper-colored, his horns curved like crescent moons. But he sat sadly, his head hung low.

"I used to dance with the stars," the Bull whispered. "But I forgot the steps."

Lily thought hard. She remembered her ballet class. "Maybe I can help!"

She began to move—step, step, spin. The Bull watched, then tried. At first he stumbled, but Lily didn't give up. Fin swam around them in sparkling orange circles, leaving trails of light like magic ribbons.

"You're doing it!" Barnaby cheered.

Soon the Great Bull was dancing—his hooves barely touching the grass, his movements graceful and powerful. The orange stars above twinkled in time with his steps.

"Thank you," the Bull said, his eyes shining. "You reminded me that dancing comes from joy, not from remembering."

Lily felt something warm in her pocket—her iPhone was glowing again. The orange light swirled around them, and suddenly she was back in her room, Fin swimming happily in his bowl.

Had it all been a dream? Lily looked at her phone. On the screen was a photo of her, Barnaby, the Great Bull, and Fin, all dancing under orange stars.

Some portals never really close, she realized with a smile. They just wait for the next adventure.
