The Goldfish's Midnight Pyramid
Seven-year-old Mia had the most unusual pet in all of Willowbrook Elementary—a goldfish named Finnegan who lived in a beautiful glass pyramid that her grandmother had brought from Egypt. Every night, Mia would twinkle her fingers at Finnegan, and he would swim in dizzying circles, his orange scales shimmering like tiny stars trapped in water.
One full moon night, something magical happened. As moonlight streamed through Mia's window, it hit the pyramid at just the right angle, and suddenly the water began to glow with soft blue light. Mia leaned closer, her nose almost touching the glass, when—WHOOSH!—she found herself shrinking smaller and smaller until she tumbled right into the pyramid!
But she wasn't in her room anymore. Mia was floating inside an enormous underwater kingdom, and there before her swam Finnegan, now the size of a dolphin! His orange scales gleamed even brighter in this magical water.
"Mia!" Finnegan spoke with a voice like gentle bubbles. "I've been waiting for someone with a pure heart to help me!" He led her through crystal corridors to a beautiful pyramid temple at the bottom of the sea. Inside, an ancient treasure sparkled—but it wasn't gold or jewels. It was the Lost Pearl of Friendship, which had been stolen by a lonely sea serpent.
Together, Mia and Finnegan swam to the serpent's dark cave. Instead of fighting, Mia did something unexpected—she offered to be the serpent's friend. The serpent, whose name was Silas, had never been offered friendship before. His loneliness had turned him bitter.
"No one has ever wanted to be my friend," Silas whispered, returning the pearl with tears that mixed with the water around them. "I only took it because I was lonely."
Mia hugged the sea serpent's scaly neck. "Everyone deserves a friend, Silas. Even sea serpents."
That night, Mia learned that true magic isn't in ancient pyramids or glowing water—it's in the power of friendship to change hearts. And now, whenever she looks at Finnegan swimming in his pyramid home, she knows that magical adventures are waiting for anyone brave enough to be kind.
"I'll visit you again soon," Mia promised Finnegan as the moonlight faded. And she always did, for some friendships are worth diving deep for.
