The Goldfish's Magical Wish

Lily's backyard pool sparkled like diamonds under the summer sun. But the most magical thing wasn't the water—it was tiny Goldie, her pet goldfish who lived in a crystal bowl on the patio table.

Every afternoon, Buster the golden retriever would nap beside Goldie's bowl, his tail thumping softly whenever he dreamed. Goldie would swim to the glass and blow bubbles at Buster, as if sharing secrets. They were the unlikeliest friends.

One sweltering afternoon, Lily discovered something strange beside the pool. A miniature pyramid, no bigger than a shoebox, glowed with an orange light. Ancient symbols decorated its sides, shimmering like captured sunshine.

"Goldie!" Lily whispered, pressing her face close to the bowl. "Do you see that?"

Goldie swam excitedly, her scales flashing like tiny copper coins. She swam round and round, creating sparkling whirlpools in her bowl.

Suddenly, the pyramid began to hum. A beam of warm light shot out and touched Goldie's bowl. WHOOSH! Goldie grew bigger and bigger until she leaped right out of her bowl and dove SPLASH into the pool!

But now Goldie was enormous—as big as Buster! Her golden scales shimmered like melted sunshine, and her fins flowed like silk ribbons in the water.

"Lily!" Goldie said, her voice sounding like water chimes. "The pyramid grants one wish! What should we wish for?"

Before Lily could answer, her dad called from the house. "Lily! Come help me fix the cable TV! It's not working!"

Lily's eyes widened. She looked at the glowing pyramid, then at her dad through the window, working and sweating alone. She looked at Goldie, magnificent in her pool kingdom, and Buster, who would do anything for his family.

"Goldie," Lily said softly, "wish that Daddy doesn't have to work so hard. Wish that he could rest with us instead."

The pyramid flashed brighter than ever. CRACKLE! The cable box started working perfectly. Her dad appeared at the door, surprised and smiling. "It's fixed! Come watch a movie together instead, Lily."

That evening, the whole family sat around the pool, eating ice cream while Goldie (back to her normal size) swam happily in her special pool-side bowl, and Buster snoozed beside them. The pyramid had vanished, leaving only a single golden scale behind.

Lily learned something magical that day: the best wishes aren't for yourself—they're for the people you love.
