The Goldfish's Magical Wish
Leo loved his pet goldfish Fin. Every day after school, he'd drop orange fish food into Fin's bowl and watch the little fish dance with sparkly silver fins.
One afternoon, Leo grabbed his baseball glove and headed to the park. "Want to come, Fin?" he joked, carrying the bowl outside. That's when Fin jumped right out of the water and grew TWO LEGS!
"I've been waiting for you to ask!" said Fin, now a tiny fish-boy with shimmering orange scales. "I'm your magical friend, Leo. I can grant you one wish!"
Leo couldn't believe it. But before he could speak, they saw Mr. Grimsby shuffling toward them. Everyone called him a zombie because he moved slowly and never spoke, always staring at the ground.
"He's lonely," whispered Fin. "His granddaughter moved away, and nobody visits him anymore."
Leo looked at his baseball glove, then at lonely Mr. Grimsby. "I wish..." Leo took a breath, "I wish Mr. Grimsby had a friend to play baseball with!"
Fin's scales glowed bright orange, and suddenly Mr. Grimsby looked up, his face lighting up with a warm smile.
"I haven't played baseball since I was a boy," Mr. Grimsby said, pulling an old glove from his pocket. "Would you like to play catch?"
Leo spent the whole afternoon playing baseball with his new friend. Mr. Grimsby wasn't a zombie at all — he was just lonely. And as the sun set, Leo realized that the best wish wasn't magic at all.
The real magic was friendship, and Fin disappeared back into his bowl with a tiny splash, his job done.
That night, Leo dropped an extra pinch of orange food into Fin's bowl. "Thank you, my friend."
And somewhere across the street, Mr. Grimsby hung his old baseball glove by the window, already excited for tomorrow's game.
