The Goldfish's Magical Portal

Leo sat on his bed, tapping his iphone. Again. His mom called it the "glowing rectangle" and said he forgot how to look up at the sky.

"You're missing everything," she'd say. But Leo didn't think he was missing anything. Until the day his goldfish, Bubbles, winked at him.

Goldfish don't wink. Leo knew this. He rubbed his eyes and looked closer. Bubbles swam to the front of the bowl and—WINKED.

Then something impossible happened. The iphone screen rippled like water, and suddenly Leo wasn't in his room anymore. He was standing in a forest where the trees had purple leaves and the grass sparkled like tiny stars.

"You're finally here!" A voice boomed. Leo looked up—and up—and UP.

A bear stood there, but not a scary bear. This bear wore a blue vest and held a magical racquet. "I'm Barnaby! Welcome to the Wonder Woods!"

"Where am I?" Leo asked, his iphone still clutched in his hand.

Barnaby chuckled. "You're where imagination lives! Come, I'll teach you to play padel—it's our most magical game. The balls glow different colors when you hit them!"

Leo had never played padel before, but Barnaby taught him how to swing. swoosh! The ball turned pink, then green, then golden. Leo laughed so hard his stomach hurt. He'd forgotten what laughing felt like.

Suddenly, moaning sounds echoed through the forest. Leo trembled.

"The Zonbies!" Barnaby whispered. "Don't worry—they're not scary. They're just... forgotten."

Leo watched as strange shuffling creatures emerged. They looked like zombie, but their eyes were sad and empty. They moved slowly, as if they'd forgotten how to run, how to play, how to LIVE.

"They spent too long in the dark," Barnaby explained softly. "They forgot what joy feels like."

The goldfish appeared, swimming through the AIR beside Leo. Bubbles blew a shimmering bubble that popped over each zombie, and suddenly they weren't gray anymore—they were bright and colorful!

"Play with them!" Bubbles seemed to say.

Leo grabbed a padel racquet. "Want to play?" he called.

The zombies' eyes widened. One by one, they began to move faster. They started RUNNING. They started LAUGHING. They weren't zombies anymore—they were ALIVE.

Barnaby beamed. "Friendship is the strongest magic, Leo. Even stronger than any glowing rectangle."

Leo looked at his iphone, then at his new friends. He tucked the phone into his pocket.

"Can we play again tomorrow?" Leo asked.

Bubbles winked. Barnaby nodded. And Leo knew the real adventure was just beginning—because the best magic doesn't happen on a screen. It happens when you look up, reach out, and make friends in the most unexpected places.
