The Goldfish's Magical Game
Lily's pet goldfish, Finley, wasn't like other fish. While her friends' goldfish just swam in circles, Finley would dance when Lily played music. One afternoon, as Lily tapped her padel racket against the garden fence like a drum, Finley began to glow.
Suddenly, the garden shed door creaked open. Inside, Lily discovered something impossible—a baseball field floating in mid-air, surrounded by twinkling stars.
"Welcome!" called a voice. Lily looked down to see a small green creature. "I'm Zed. I'm a zombie, but don't worry—I'm a friendly one. I just shuffle because I'm so excited all the time!"
Zed explained that Finley was actually a magical Starfish who had come to grant Lily a wish. But first, she needed to play the most important game of her life.
"I've never been good at baseball," Lily said, feeling shy.
"That doesn't matter," Zed promised. "This is Wonder Baseball. The ball is made of wishes, and every hit makes something magical happen."
A golden cable descended from above, carrying a shining baseball bat into Lily's hands. When she swung, the ball didn't just fly—it burst into butterflies, then rainbows, then a thousand tiny stars that spelled out messages of hope.
With each hit, more friendly zombies appeared. They weren't scary at all—they just moved slowly because they were savoring every moment. They cheered, did silly dances, and shared magical snacks that tasted like birthday wishes.
"What should I wish for?" Lily asked Finley.
The golden fish swam through the air and whispered in her ear: "Wish for what you already have."
Lily looked around at her new friends—Zed doing his wiggly victory dance, the other zombies creating music with their feet, the magical field shimmering with possibilities.
"I wish," Lily said, "that every child could have friends who accept them exactly as they are—even if they're a little different."
The baseball field erupted in celebration. Confetti made of dreams showered down. Lily found herself back in her garden, but something had changed.
Now, whenever she tapped her padel racket, Finley would glow. And somewhere, beyond the garden fence, she could hear Zed and his friends doing their happy zombie shuffle, dancing to the music of friendship.
Lily learned that the best magic isn't about wishes—it's about opening your heart to wonder and finding friends in the most unexpected places. Even if they happen to be zombies who love baseball.
