The Goldfish's Magical Game
Lily's pet goldfish, Finny, wasn't ordinary. Every midnight, he grew legs and whispered secrets.
"Lily!" Finny tapped on the glass bowl one night. "The Orange Sphinx needs us!"
Lily rubbed her eyes. "The what?"
"The Orange Sphinx! She guards the Magic Padel Court at the edge of dreams. But something's wrong—players are turning into statues!"
Lily's heart thumped with excitement. She slipped Finny into her pocket, where he shimmered like liquid moonlight.
Together they tumbled through her mirror into a world made of spun sugar and starlight. There stood the Orange Sphinx—her fur the color of sunset, her eyes kind and ancient.
"Thank you for coming," the Sphinx purred. "My magical padel court has been cursed. A lonely zombie named Zombles plays alone every night. His sadness turns everyone to stone."
"A zombie?" Lily gulped.
"He's not scary," Finny bubbled. "Just lonely."
The Sphinx handed Lily a glowing orange padel racket. "Beat Zombles fairly, and the curse breaks. But play with kindness in your heart."
At the court, a green figure shuffled alone, hitting a ball against the wall. *Thwack. Thwack.* Zombles looked more sad than scary.
"Want to play with us?" Lily called.
Zombles froze. His orange eyes widened. "Play? With me?"
"Yes!" Lily grinned. "I'm Lily. This is Finny. We're not very good, but we try hard!"
Zombles's stitched smile stretched into a real one. They played until dawn—the most magical game ever. Finny swam through the air, cheering. The Sphinx roared with laughter every time someone missed.
When Lily finally won, the stone statues burst free, dancing and cheering.
"Thank you," Zombles whispered. "I haven't had friends in a hundred years."
"You have now," Lily said, hugging her new friend.
The Sphinx winked. "Friendship is the strongest magic of all."
Lily tumbled back through her mirror as the sun rose. Finny swam in his bowl, looking very pleased with himself. And sometimes, if Lily listened closely, she could hear Zombles laughing in her dreams, playing padel with friends forever.
