The Goldfish's Magical Game
Lily stared at the backyard pool, its blue water shimmering like liquid sapphires in the afternoon sun. She'd been practicing her baseball swing every day, but the ball kept landing in the water. Today was different though.
As she reached for her floating baseball, something extraordinary happened. A tiny goldfish popped to the surface, but this wasn't like any goldfish she'd ever seen. Its scales glittered with rainbow colors, and when it spoke, its voice sounded like wind chimes.
"You have a powerful swing, young Lily," the goldfish said. "But would you like to play a game where every hit makes magic happen?"
Lily's eyes widened. "Really? But who would I play with?"
"Follow me!" The goldfish swam toward the deep end, and suddenly the pool water transformed into a swirling portal. Lily stepped through—and found herself in a magical desert where an enormous sphinx waited beside the most beautiful baseball diamond she'd ever seen.
"I am Sphinx," the creature announced, "guardian of the Game of Wishes. Hit my magical baseball, and whatever you wish for your friends will come true—but only if you hit it fair and square."
Lily stepped up to the plate, her heart pounding. The sphinx tossed a glowing baseball toward her. She remembered all her practice, all the times she'd missed. But this time, she wasn't thinking about herself. She thought about her friend Emma, who couldn't afford to join the baseball team. She thought about how much Emma loved the game.
Lily swung with everything she had—and watched the baseball soar through the sky, leaving a trail of sparkles like shooting stars.
"HOME RUN!" the sphinx roared joyfully. "Your wish is granted!"
Suddenly, Lily was back by her pool, holding her regular baseball. But something magical had happened. The next day at school, Emma ran up to her, grinning from ear to ear.
"Lily! You won't believe it! Someone anonymously paid for me to join the baseball team!"
Lily smiled, remembering the sphinx's words: "The most powerful hits are the ones hit for others."
From that day on, every time Lily played baseball, she remembered the magical game—and that the best way to hit a home run is to help someone else score one too. And sometimes, if she looked closely at her pool, she could still see a rainbow-colored goldfish winking at her from beneath the water.
