The Goldfish's Magic Wish

Lily loved her pet goldfish, Goldie, who swam in circles in his bowl on the windowsill. But what Lily loved most was her backyard pool, where she spent hours splashing and imagining she was a mermaid exploring secret underwater kingdoms.

One hot afternoon, Lily was playing her favorite game on her iphone when she slipped near the pool edge. *SPLASH!* The phone sank to the bottom like a shiny stone.

"Oh no!" Lily cried. But before she could reach in, the water began to glow.

Goldie, her goldfish, suddenly appeared in the pool—only now he was the size of a dolphin! His scales sparkled like tiny stars.

"I've been waiting for you to drop something magical in my kingdom," Goldie said with a bubbly voice. "Your iphone holds the key to adventure!"

The pool transformed into a swirling portal. Lily felt herself being pulled through, and when she opened her eyes, she stood in a forest where the trees had rainbow leaves that chimed like bells in the breeze.

There, sleeping on a bed of moss, was a giant teddy bear come to life. But not just any bear—this bear had bright purple hair that changed color with his mood!

"That's Barnaby," Goldie explained. "He's the Guardian of Dreams. But he's been sleeping for a hundred years because no one remembered how to dream big enough to wake him."

Lily approached the bear gently. His purple hair shifted to pink as he stirred. "Who wakes me?" his voice rumbled like thunder wrapped in velvet.

"I do," said Lily bravely. "I dream of worlds where fish can talk and bears have rainbow hair!"

Barnaby's hair turned golden yellow. "A child who believes in magic!" He laughed, and flowers bloomed everywhere. "For that, I grant you one wish."

Lily thought carefully. She didn't wish for a new phone or toys. "I wish that Goldie could swim free between worlds, visiting me whenever he wants, and that I could visit his kingdom too."

Barnaby smiled. "A wish for friendship, not things. The wisest wish of all."

*POOF!* Lily was back beside her pool. Her iphone floated to the surface, dry and working better than ever. And sometimes, when the sunlight hits the water just right, she sees Goldie's fins flash with magic, reminding her that the best adventures are the ones shared with friends.

Now whenever Lily swims, she leaves her iphone safely on dry ground. Because she learned that some magic moments are too wonderful to capture on screen—they're meant for the heart alone.
