The Goldfish's Magic Wish
Lily sat by her window, watching the rain pour down. Thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy. Suddenly, a flash of lightning streaked across the sky, so bright it made her squeeze her eyes shut.
When she opened them again, something magical had appeared in the center of her palm. A tiny goldfish, no bigger than her thumb, was swimming in the air as if her hand were a bowl of water. Its scales shimmered like rainbows.
"Hello, Lily!" the goldfish said in a bubbly voice. "I'm Finn! I've been waiting for someone with a heart full of wishes."
Lily gasped. "You can talk?"
"I can do more than talk!" Finn swished his golden tail. "Take my fin, and I'll show you something wonderful!"
Lily gently touched Finn's fin with her fingertip. WHOOSH! They were flying through the lightning-lit sky, leaving her room behind.
Below them appeared a magnificent pyramid made entirely of glowing books. Each book held someone's wish or dream.
"This is the Pyramid of Wishes," Finn explained. "Every wish someone makes when they see a shooting star or blow out birthday candles comes here. But some wishes get forgotten."
Lily's heart sank. "Like mine?"
"Maybe," Finn said kindly. "Or maybe you just haven't made the right wish yet."
Inside the pyramid, Lily saw dusty books piled everywhere. She picked one up. It read: "I wish for a friend who understands me."
"That's my wish!" Lily cried.
Finn smiled. "Then make it come true. What does friendship mean to you?"
Lily thought carefully. "Friendship means being kind, listening, and sharing adventures together. Like us!"
As she spoke, the book began to glow. Golden light filled the pyramid. Suddenly, children appeared around them—everyone who had wished for friendship.
"You're all here!" Lily said, amazed. "We just needed to find each other!"
Finn swam happily around them. "See? Sometimes magic brings us together, but friendship is what keeps us there."
Lily returned home with new friends and a magical goldfish friend who visited her in a special fishbowl. And every time lightning flashed, she wondered what other magic was waiting to be discovered.
She learned that the best wishes aren't about having things—they're about finding people who make your heart feel like it's glowing, just like a golden fish in the palm of your hand.
