The Goldfish's Magic Message
Lily loved her goldfish, Goldie, more than anything in the world. Every day after school, she would sit by the blue fish bowl and tell Goldie about her day. Goldie would swim to the top, his orange scales shimmering in the sunlight, and blow tiny bubbles as if he understood everything.
One rainy afternoon, Lily was feeling sad. She had left her favorite iPhone at school, and without it, she felt completely alone. The gray clouds outside her window made everything feel gloomy.
"I wish I could talk to my friends," Lily whispered, resting her chin on her hands.
Goldie swam closer to the glass wall. He darted around his small castle, then did something extraordinary. He swam through a shiny loop—a forgotten cable someone had once dropped into his bowl. Suddenly, the water began to glow with soft blue light.
Lily gasped. The old charging cable at the bottom of the bowl was twinkling like stars. Goldie swam through it again and again, each time making the light brighter.
Then, magically, words began to form in the water above Goldie. They floated like tiny bubbles: HELLO LILY.
"Goldie? Can you understand me?" Lily asked, her eyes wide.
The water shimmered again: YES. YOUR FRIENDS MISS YOU TOO. BUT YOU'RE NEVER ALONE WHEN YOU HAVE A FRIEND WHO CARES.
Tears filled Lily's eyes—not sad tears, but happy ones. She had always talked to Goldie, but now Goldie could really talk back!
From that day on, whenever Lily felt lonely, she would sit by Goldie's bowl. The magical cable still glowed sometimes, and Goldie would swim through it to send her messages of friendship and love. But Lily learned something even more important than magical goldfish messages.
She learned that the best kind of connection doesn't need phones or cables or magic. It just needs a heart that cares. And Goldie had the biggest heart of all.
Every evening, Lily would whisper "Goodnight" to her special friend, and somewhere in the swirling water, she would see the words glow back: GOODNIGHT LILLY. I'LL ALWAYS BE HERE FOR YOU.
And Goldie always was.
