The Goldfish's Lightning Wish
Leo sat by his fish tank, watching Bubbles swim through the water. Bubbles was no ordinary goldfish—her scales shimmered like tiny stars, and she always seemed to be listening when Leo talked.
Outside, thunder rumbled like a giant tummy. Lightning flashed across the sky, painting everything silver.
"I wish I had a real friend," Leo whispered. "Someone who isn't scared of storms."
Bubbles swam to the front of the glass and tapped her nose against it. CRACK! A bolt of lightning struck the roof.
Suddenly, the room filled with sparkling light. When Leo could see again, Bubbles had grown—no, she had LEAPT out of her tank! But she wasn't wet. She floated like a balloon, her golden scales glowing.
"You made a wish," Bubbles said in a bubbly voice. "Magic lightning grants special wishes."
From the toy chest, something stirred. It was Leo's old zombie doll—the one his sister had given him as a joke, with messy green yarn hair and stitched-on eyes. The doll stood up, wobbly but friendly.
"I'm Zed," the doll said, stretching his stuffed arms. "I've been waiting for someone to play with me."
Leo gasped. "You're alive! But... you're a zombie. Aren't zombies supposed to be scary?"
Zed smiled crookedly. "Only in stories. In real magic, scary things just need a friend to show their true colors."
Bubbles nodded. "That's the lightning secret. Things that seem frightening—like storms or zombie dolls—might be magical in disguise."
That night, the three of them had the best adventure ever. Zed told jokes that made even Bubbles giggle (she blew bubbles when she laughed). Lightning flashed outside, but it wasn't scary anymore—it was just magic lighting up their friendship.
"Next time you see something scary," Bubbles said, swimming in midair, "remember: magic lightning might turn it into your best friend."
Leo hugged his new friends. Storms would never be lonely again.
