The Goldfish's Lightning Strike

Leo loved his tiny goldfish, Goldie, who swam in circles in her bowl on his nightstand. But Leo had a secret — he knew Goldie was magic.

One stormy evening, lightning flashed outside Leo's window. CRACK! BOOM! The thunder shook the house. Goldie jumped so high she almost flipped right out of her bowl!

"Are you okay, Goldie?" Leo whispered, peeking through his fingers.

Goldie swam to the surface and BUBBLED at him. Not ordinary bubbles — these were glowing rainbow bubbles!

Suddenly, Goldie LEAPT out of her bowl and landed on Leo's baseball glove. GLOW — she grew to the size of a real cat!

"Leo!" Goldie squeaked. "The lightning gave me magic powers for one hour! What do you want to do?"

Leo's eyes widened. "Let's play baseball!"

They tiptoed to the backyard garden where Leo's mom grew the most enormous spinach plants. They were taller than Leo!

Goldie waved her fin. ZIP! ZAP! The spinach leaves turned into green glowing baseballs.

"Pitch one!" Leo cheered.

Goldie tossed a spinach ball. Leo swung his bat — SWISH! He missed, and the spinach ball splatted against the fence, leaving a green splotch.

"Try again!" Goldie bubbled happily.

They played and laughed until the lightning storm faded. Goldie shrank smaller and smaller.

"My magic is almost gone," she said sadly. "But I have one last gift for you."

She touched the remaining spinach balls with her fin. POOF! They turned into real, delicious chocolate chip cookies!

Leo carried Goldie back to her bowl. She was small again, happily swimming in circles.

"That was the best adventure ever," Leo whispered.

Goldie blew him one last glowing bubble that floated above her bowl, sparkling like a tiny night-light. Leo fell asleep smiling, dreaming of spinach baseball and chocolate chip cookies, with his magical goldfish glowing softly beside him.
