The Goldfish's Gift
Maya sat beneath the swaying palm tree, digging her toes into warm sand. Her parents had given her their old iPhone to play with while they set up the beach umbrella, but Maya wasn't interested in games. She was too busy watching the sparkly blue ocean.
That's when she saw something shimmering near the water's edge. It wasn't a shell or a piece of sea glass. It was a tiny goldfish, flopping in a shallow puddle!
"Oh no!" Maya cried, rushing over. The goldfish had beautiful golden scales that glittered like sunshine. But its gills were moving weakly.
"The tide is going out," the goldfish whispered in a tiny, bell-like voice.
Maya gasped. "You can talk?"
"I'm not an ordinary fish," said the goldfish. "I'm a Guardian of the Tides. If you help me back to deep water, I'll grant you one wish."
Maya carefully scooped up the fish in her cupped palms. The fish felt cool and slippery, like a piece of moonlight. But then she realized—she still held her parents' iPhone in her other hand!
She quickly placed the iPhone on a piece of driftwood and ran toward the waves. "Can I ask for anything?" she called out.
"Anything your heart truly desires," the goldfish bubbled.
Maya waded into the water until it reached her knees. She gently lowered her hands. The goldfish swam free, turning circles of joy.
"Your wish?" it asked.
Maya thought hard. She could wish for a new bicycle, or unlimited ice cream, or to fly like a superhero. But then she looked at the iPhone on the beach. Her parents had worked hard to buy it, even though it was old.
"I wish for my parents to have the most wonderful day ever," Maya said. "They work so hard and never take time for themselves."
The goldfish flashed brighter than a star. "Granted. And because you wished for others instead of yourself, you'll receive something extra."
Suddenly, the iPhone on the beach chimed. Maya ran back through the sand and saw that a new app had appeared—a magical ocean kingdom game where she could visit her goldfish friend anytime.
"Thank you!" Maya waved to the water, where golden scales still twinkled beneath the waves.
That evening, Maya's parents laughed and splashed in the sunset, looking happier than Maya had ever seen them. She knew the goldfish had kept its promise. And every night, she would open her magical app to visit her friend beneath the waves, learning that the best wishes are the ones you make for others.
