The Goldfish of Storm Pool

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden, especially on hot summer days. Behind the old house stood a secret place—the ancient swimming pool, now wild and magical. Lily would sit on the stone edge, dipping her feet into the cool water.

One afternoon, dark clouds gathered overhead. Thunder rumbled like a hungry tiger's growl. Lily should have gone inside, but something kept her there. A flash of lightning streaked across the sky, and suddenly, the water began to glow.

From the depths of the pool, a beautiful goldfish rose, floating above the surface like magic. Its scales shimmered with every color imaginable—red, orange, blue, green.

"You're not ordinary goldfish," Lily whispered, extending her palm.

The goldfish swam closer, hovering just above her hand. "I'm the Storm Keeper's friend," it spoke in a voice like raindrops. "Only during lightning storms can I visit the world above."

Lily's eyes widened. "That's amazing!"

"Would you like to see something wonderful?" The goldfish swam in a circle, leaving trails of sparkling light. "Hold out both palms."

Lily held her hands flat, and suddenly, droplets of water appeared in her palms. But this wasn't ordinary water—it glowed and shimmered.

"This is magic water from my home beneath the pool," the goldfish explained. "With it, you can make one wish. But choose carefully—magic should help others, not just yourself."

Lily thought hard. She could wish for toys, or candy, or endless summer days. But then she remembered her grandmother, who had trouble walking to her favorite garden bench.

"I wish for my grandmother to dance again," Lily said softly, "so she can twirl with me in the garden."

The goldfish smiled—yes, fish can smile! "A kind heart deserves magic rewards."

It swam three times around Lily's palms, and the glowing water transformed into butterflies of light. They flew toward the house just as the lightning flashed one final time.

That evening, Lily's grandmother danced for the first time in years, spinning and laughing as raindrops fell outside. In the magical pool, the goldfish swam deep below, waiting for the next storm—and the next kind child.
