The Goldfish in the Stormy Pool

Lily had the wildest hair in town. It bounced like springs when she walked and puffed up like a cloud when it rained. But she loved her crazy curls—they made her feel like a princess from a storybook.

One hot afternoon, Lily spotted something shimmering in the old swimming pool behind her house. Nobody had used it for years, and green moss covered the sides. But there, glinting in the sunlight, was a tiny orange goldfish!

"How did you get here?" Lily whispered, kneeling beside the pool.

The goldfish swam to the surface and spoke in a voice like tiny bells: "I'm Stella, and I need your help! A magical lightning bolt trapped me here during last night's storm. I belong in the Crystal Pond beyond the old palm tree at the edge of the woods."

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk!"

"Only to kind children with brave hearts," Stella said. "Will you help me get home?"

Lily scooped Stella into a jar filled with pool water. Holding the jar carefully in her palm, she marched toward the woods. The sky darkened, and thunder rumbled in the distance.

"Don't be scared," Stella said from inside the jar. "The storm is just saying hello!"

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating a hidden path through the trees. Lily followed it until she found the Crystal Pond glowing under the moonlight.

She gently poured Stella into the pond. The little goldfish grew bigger and more beautiful, her scales turning from orange to sparkling rainbow colors.

"Thank you, brave Lily!" Stella said. "For your kindness, I grant you one wish."

Lily thought carefully. "I wish that everyone could find magic when they need it most."

Stella swam in a joyful circle. "Granted! And look in the mirror tomorrow morning—you'll find a special surprise."

The next day, Lily discovered tiny sparkling stars woven into her curls. Whenever she helped someone, the stars would glow, reminding her that kindness creates magic everywhere.

And sometimes, on stormy nights, she would visit the Crystal Pond, where Stella still swam, ready to share adventures with her dearest friend.
