The Goldfish in the iPhone

Lily was lonely. Every day after school, she sat on her bed scrolling through her iPhone, watching other kids have adventures while she had none.

One rainy Tuesday, something strange happened. As Lily tapped her screen, a tiny orange fish appeared inside the glass. Not a video—a real, swimming goldfish!

"Hello!" said the goldfish, bubbles floating from his mouth. "I'm Finn, and I've been swimming through the internet for three hundred years looking for someone who needs a friend."

Lily rubbed her eyes. "You can talk?"

"I can do better than talk," Finn said. "I can show you magic. But first, you have to put down the phone and come outside."

The next morning, the sun was shining. Lily slid her iPhone into her pocket and followed Finn's instructions, which somehow appeared as glowing text on her screen. She walked to the park where she heard a rhythmic *thwack-thwack-thwack*.

Children were playing padel—a magical game like tennis but with glass walls and small racquets. They laughed and shouted as they hit the ball back and forth.

"Try it," Finn whispered from her pocket.

Nervously, Lily approached. A girl named Mia handed her a padel racquet. "Want to play?"

Lily's first swing sent the ball flying over the fence. Everyone laughed—but kindly. "That's okay!" Mia said. "I was terrible too. Keep trying."

By the end of the day, Lily was exhausted but happy. She had made three friends: Mia, who taught her to serve; Sam, who told funny jokes; and Aisha, who gave her the best high-five ever.

That night, Lily checked her iPhone. Finn was still there, swimming in happy circles.

"Did you find your adventure?" Finn asked.

"Better," Lily smiled, already texting her new friends. "I found something real."

She tucked the phone under her pillow, excited for tomorrow's padel game. The iPhone was just a tool now. The real magic was outside, waiting.
