The Goldfish in My Palm

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the garden filled with flowers that smelled like sunshine and strawberries. But her favorite spot was the stone fountain in the backyard, where three tiny goldfish swam in circles all day long.

One warm afternoon, Lily sat beside the fountain, watching the fish dart through the water. "I wish I could swim with you," she whispered, trailing her fingers through the cool water.

Suddenly, the smallest goldfish—a shimmering orange one—swam right to her hand and jumped! Lily caught it gently in her cupped palms, expecting it to flop and gasp like regular fish do.

Instead, the goldfish spoke. "I've been waiting for someone who believes in magic!"

Lily gasped. "You can talk?"

"Only to friends," the goldfish said, its scales glowing softly. "My name is Finnick, and I need your help."

Finnick explained that the fountain's magic was fading because children had stopped using their imaginations. The garden needed wonder to stay alive.

"What can I do?" Lily asked, cradling Finnick carefully in her palm.

"Close your eyes and imagine something wonderful," Finnick said. "The most amazing thing you can think of."

Lily squeezed her eyes shut. She imagined flowers that could sing, trees that grew candy instead of leaves, and butterflies that left trails of glitter wherever they flew.

When she opened her eyes, the garden had changed! Pink tulips were humming soft melodies, the oak tree was covered in colorful lollipops, and golden butterflies were dancing through the air, leaving sparkling paths behind them.

"You did it!" Finnick cheered, flopping happily in her hands. "Your imagination saved our magic!"

From that day on, Lily visited every week, bringing new stories and dreams. The more she imagined, the more magical the garden became. She learned that believing in wonder makes the world more beautiful for everyone.

And every time she left, Finnick would jump into her palm just long enough to whisper, "Thank you, my friend. Never stop dreaming."

Lily never did. She kept imagining and creating magic everywhere she went, because she learned that the best adventures start with a single wish and someone who believes in you.
