The Goldfish in Leo's Hair

Leo had the messiest hair in town. It stuck up like golden straw in every direction. His mom called it a bird's nest, but Leo called it an adventure waiting to happen.

One sunny morning, Leo reached for his favorite orange on the breakfast table. But something magical happened instead. A tiny splash echoed from his hair, and out popped a shimmering goldfish!

"Good morning!" the goldfish said, doing a happy flip. "My name is Finley, and I've been waiting for you."

Leo gasped. "You can talk? And how are you swimming in my hair?"

Finley laughed, bubbles rising like tiny pearls. "Magic, of course! And I have something wonderful to show you."

Finley led Leo behind the old oak tree at the edge of the baseball field. There sat a giant bull with the gentlest brown eyes Leo had ever seen. The bull sighed, resting his chin on his massive hooves.

"That's Buster," Finley whispered. "He loves baseball, but he's too big to play."

Buster's eyes brightened when he saw Leo's glove. "I wish I could play too," he said softly.

Leo's heart swelled. He knew exactly what to do. "Buster, you can be the best catcher ever!"

All summer long, Leo threw baseball after baseball. Buster caught every one in his massive, gentle mouth, never dropping a single ball. The orange sunset watched over them as Finley swam happy circles in Leo's hair, cheering, "Home run! Perfect catch!"

When school started, Leo made the baseball team. But every afternoon, he ran straight back to Buster. The other players soon joined, and Buster became the most famous catcher in town.

Leo learned that the best friends come in unexpected packages—even magical goldfish and giant bulls. And his messy hair? It wasn't messy at all anymore. It was magical.
