The Goldfish Baseball League
Leo loved baseball. Every Saturday, he watched his big brother hit home runs at the park while Leo sat on the bench with his glove, waiting for his turn to play.
One breezy afternoon, while waiting for practice to start, Leo noticed something shiny near the baseball diamond. It was an old iPhone, covered in dirt and half-buried in the grass. He wiped it off on his jersey, and to his surprise, the screen lit up!
But this wasn't like any phone Leo had ever seen. Instead of apps or games, tiny goldfish were swimming across the screen, wearing miniature baseball caps and holding tiny bats. The screen filled with bubbles, and suddenly, Leo was inside the phone!
He stood in a miniature stadium where goldfish in orange and white scales played the most amazing baseball game. They hit bubblegum-pink baseballs that floated through the air like balloons. When they ran bases, they didn't run—they swam through air as if it were water!
"You're the first human to ever visit us!" said Finley, the goldfish pitcher. "We're the Goldfish Baseball League. We play whenever children wish upon us during baseball practice."
Leo watched in wonder as Finley threw a pitch that sparkled like a diamond. A goldfish batter hit it, and the ball sailed through a rainbow before landing in a glove made of seaweed. The crowd cheered with tiny bubbles instead of shouts.
"We could use a teammate," said Finley. "Someone small enough to fit in our world, but big enough to dream big. Would you like to play?"
Leo's heart soared! His brother never let him join real games, but here, the goldfish wanted HIM. Leo played outfield, catching bubble-balls with a glove made of spun light. He even hit a home run that traveled through three rainbows!
When practice ended, the screen dimmed, and Leo found himself back on the bench, holding the ordinary-looking iPhone. His brother ran over, grinning. "Hey Leo! Coach says you can join the team next week. You were really focused out here!"
Leo smiled, sliding the iPhone into his pocket. Sometimes the best adventures happen when you least expect them, and true friends come in all sizes—even goldfish-sized.
