The Goldfish and the Sky Cable
Lily discovered the goldfish in the most peculiar place — not in a pond or aquarium, but floating in a bubble of moonlight beside her bedroom window. The tiny fish shimmered like liquid sunset, its scales flashing every shade of orange you could imagine.
"I'm Finley," the fish bubbled, and Lily could understand him perfectly. "And I need your help. The sky cable has broken!"
Lily's eyes widened. "Sky cable? What's that?"
"It's the magical line that carries wishes from children's palms up to the Wishing Star," Finley explained. "Without it, no wishes can reach the stars. Look!"
Lily pressed her palm against the window glass. Sure enough, she could see something glinting in the night sky — a shimmering silver cable stretching from the earth to the heavens, but it had snapped in the middle.
"How can we fix it?" Lily asked, her heart racing with excitement.
"You'll need something magical and strong," Finley said. "Something from the heart."
Lily thought hard. She looked at her palm, then at the orange moon hanging low in the sky. Suddenly, she knew. She pulled a bright orange ribbon from her hair — the same ribbon her grandmother had given her, woven with love and laughter and memories.
"Will this work?"
Finley's scales glowed brighter. "Perfect! Hold one end, and I'll carry the other up the cable!"
Lily held the orange ribbon tight in her palm. Finley grabbed the other end in his mouth and — WHOOSH — shot up the broken cable like a shooting star, trailing the ribbon behind him like a streak of fire. He reached the top, tied the ribbon to the sky cable, and mended the break with a flash of golden light.
That night, wishes flowed freely again. And sometimes, when you look up at the stars, you might still see a tiny orange ribbon sparkling in the sky, and a little goldfish swimming beside it, reminding everyone that the strongest magic comes from the simplest things — love, kindness, and a helping hand.
