The Goldfish and the Midnight Pyramid

Timothy was the smallest boy in his class, with wild red hair that stuck up like flames. His only friend was Gilbert, a tiny orange goldfish who swam circles in his bowl.

Every night, Timothy tapped on the glass. "Goodnight, Gilbert."

One Tuesday, something magical happened. As Timothy's finger touched the glass, a swirl of blue light pulsed through the water. Gilbert's tiny mouth opened.

"Timothy!" said a squeaky voice. "You're finally here!"

Timothy fell backward onto his carpet. "You can talk?"

"I've always been able to talk," Gilbert said, puffing out his orange cheeks. "But tonight is special. The midnight pyramid opens only once every hundred years, and you have been chosen to enter."

Gilbert swam right through the glass, floating in the air like he was swimming through invisible water. "Follow me!"

Timothy's crazy hair crackled with static as he chased his floating fish downstairs to the backyard swimming pool. The full moon reflected perfectly on the still water.

"Watch," Gilbert whispered.

Slowly, a glowing golden pyramid rose from the pool's center. It spun with swirling colors—purple, green, silver—and light poured from its crystal peak.

"What's inside?" Timothy breathed.

"A treasure that belongs to someone kind," Gilbert said. "Someone who never makes fun of others. Someone who has been lonely for a long time."

The pyramid's front door slid open. Inside sat a single mirror.

Timothy stepped closer and gasped. In the reflection, his red hair flowed like liquid gold, and thousands of tiny goldfish swam around him like stars. But most importantly, he wasn't alone anymore.

"The treasure isn't gold," Gilbert explained, swimming beside his shoulder. "It's knowing that friendship finds you in the most unexpected places."

Timothy smiled, his wild hair sparkling under the moonlight. "I'm glad you're my friend, Gilbert."

"And I'm glad you're mine," the goldfish bubbled. "Now let's go home. We have a hundred years of adventures ahead of us."

As the pyramid sank back into the water, Timothy knew he would never be lonely again. Sometimes the best friends come in the smallest—and most surprising—packages.
