The Goldfish and the Magic Cable
Lily had a secret. In her fish tank swam Goldie, not just an ordinary goldfish, but a magical one who could grant wishes. Every night, Goldie went swimming through sparkles of light, visiting magical worlds.
One afternoon, Lily's brother Toby showed her his new video game. "Look! The characters are doing the zombie dance!" Toby laughed as he made his hero shuffle and wiggle like a funny zombie.
Goldie watched through the glass, her orange scales shimmering. She bubbles a message: "Take me to the Great Sphinx! She knows where the Magic Cable is hidden!"
Lily's eyes widened. "The Magic Cable?"
Goldie nodded. "It connects all the magical worlds. But it's been lost for a hundred years. If we find it, I can visit my friends in the sphinx's kingdom anytime!"
That night, Lily tucked Goldie into a special water bag. Together, they crept into the garden where the old stone fountain stood—a perfect mini sphinx statue that Lily had always loved.
"Magic Sphinx, awaken!" Lily whispered, touching the stone nose.
Crack! Sparkles erupted like golden fireworks. The sphinx's eyes opened, glowing with ancient wisdom.
"Young one," the sphinx spoke in a voice like wind through desert dunes. "You seek the Magic Cable? First, you must solve my riddle."
Lily nodded bravely.
"I have a mouth but never speak. I run but have no feet. What am I?"
Lily thought hard. Then she spotted it—tangled behind the bushes where her dad kept the garden lights. "A river!" she cried. "No, wait—a cable!"
The sphinx smiled. "Close enough, little one. The Magic Cable you seek has been hiding in plain sight."
She pointed to the golden cord wrapped around the fountain base. Lily gently pulled it. Suddenly, the water began swimming with rainbow colors!
Goldie leaped from her bag, diving into the magical water. "Thank you, Lily! Now I can visit all my friends!"
The sphinx winked. "And you, Lily, shall always have a friend in the magical worlds. Just tug the cable when you wish to visit."
From that night on, Lily and Goldie had many adventures, sometimes swimming with mermaids, sometimes dancing at sphinx parties, and always, always returning home with hearts full of magic and joy.
