The Goldfish and the Emerald Pyramid
Lily loved her pet goldfish, Sparkle. He was the shiniest, orange-est fish in all of her fishbowl, and Lily could have sworn he winked at her sometimes.
One rainy afternoon, Lily was eating her least favorite food—spinach—when something extraordinary happened. Sparkle swam to the top of his bowl and blew a bubble that didn't pop. Instead, it floated through the air and landed right in Lily's plate of spinach!
The bubble turned the spinach leaves bright green and sparkly. Before Lily's eyes, the spinach pieces began stacking themselves, higher and higher, until they formed a perfect little pyramid right there on her dinner plate.
"Follow me," Sparkle seemed to say with a swish of his tailfin.
Lily reached out to touch the spinach pyramid, and suddenly her room melted away like mist. She found herself standing in a magical garden where everything was made of emerald-green leaves and sparkling streams.
Sparkle was there too, but now he could fly! He had beautiful dragonfly wings that shimmered like rainbows.
"Welcome to the Pyramid Garden," Sparkle said in a tiny, musical voice. "This is where all the world's imagination grows."
Lily gasped. The garden was filled with pyramids made of every vegetable she'd ever refused to eat—carrot pyramids that glowed orange, broccoli castles that touched the clouds, and the biggest, most beautiful spinach pyramid of all, shining like an emerald jewel.
"But I never eat my vegetables," Lily admitted guiltily.
"That's why the garden was fading," Sparkle explained sadly. "Without children's imagination, the magical gardens disappear. Every time a child tries something new with an open heart, the garden grows stronger."
Lily looked at all the beautiful pyramids around her and realized something important. She had been missing out on adventures because she wouldn't try new things.
"I'll try them all," Lily promised. "I'll be brave and taste everything with an adventurous heart!"
Sparkle did a happy flip in the air. The garden suddenly burst into brilliant colors, and Lily felt herself floating back to her room.
When she opened her eyes, her spinach pyramid sat on her plate, still gently steaming. Lily took a bite. It was delicious! And somehow, it tasted just like magic.
From that day on, Lily tried every new food with curiosity and wonder, knowing that somewhere in a magical garden, Sparkle was building more beautiful pyramids, one adventurous bite at a time.
