The Goldfish and the Crystal Pyramid
Lily pressed her nose against the glass bowl, watching her pet goldfish, Neptune, swim in lazy circles. He was no ordinary fish. His scales shimmered with colors that changed like a rainbow.
One rainy afternoon, Neptune spoke.
"Lily," he bubbled, his voice tiny and musical. "The Storm Pyramid opens tonight. Will you come with me?"
Lily's eyes widened. The old stories were true! Behind her house, in the meadow where lightning always struck during storms, stood a mysterious pyramid made of crystal. No one knew how it got there.
"But how will we get there?" Lily asked.
Neptune leaped from his bowl, and suddenly he wasn't a fish anymore—he was a magnificent creature with the body of a golden fish and the powerful legs of a bull. His fur gleamed like polished copper, and his fish tail sparkled with starlight.
"Climb on my back," Neptune said. "We ride with the lightning!"
Lily scrambled onto his back just as a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky. Neptune charged forward, his hooves thundering. When the next lightning bolt struck, they leaped INTO it!
They rode through a tunnel of crackling light, faster than anything Lily had ever experienced. Stars blurred past. Colors swirled like paint in water.
Then—THUMP! They landed softly inside a glowing pyramid. Its walls were made of crystal, and in the center floated a golden light.
"The Heart of Wishes," Neptune whispered. "It grants one wish to those who are brave and kind."
Lily thought hard. She could wish for anything—to fly, to be famous, to have infinite candy. But she remembered how lonely Neptune must have been in his small bowl.
"I wish," Lily said clearly, "that Neptune could be free to explore the world, and that he could visit me whenever he wants."
The golden light swirled around them both. Lily felt warm all over, like being hugged by sunshine.
When they awoke, Lily was back in her room, safe in her bed. But something was different. Through her window, she saw Neptune—sometimes as a goldfish in the pond, sometimes as his magnificent bull-fish form—galloping through fields, swimming in lakes, exploring mountains.
And every evening, he would tap on her window with his golden hoof, and they would share stories of his adventures.
Lily had learned something wonderful that night: the best wishes aren't the ones that change just your life—they're the ones that make someone else's life magical too.
