The Golden Pool of Wonders

Maya hated thunderstorms. But tonight, as lightning flashed across the sky, something magical happened.

She peeked through her window at the swimming pool in the backyard. Each lightning strike turned the water into shimmering gold, and suddenly, a glowing pyramid rose from the deep end.

"Who's there?" Maya whispered, stepping outside.

A tiny goldfish with sparkling scales popped her head above the water. "I'm Finnigan! The lightning opened the portal between worlds. Will you help me?"

Maya's eyes widened. "A talking fish!"

"The Pyramid of Dreams is broken," Finnigan explained. "Only someone brave can fix it. Are you brave?"

Maya thought about her baseball team. They'd lost every game this season, but Coach always said, "Being brave means trying even when you're scared."

"I'll try," Maya said.

She dove into the pool and found herself in an underwater kingdom where the pyramid stood tall. Lightning flickered through the water like dancing stars.

"The pyramid's magic comes from courage," Finnigan said. "Show me something brave."

Maya closed her eyes and remembered her baseball bat at home. She imagined holding it, stepping up to the plate, even though she'd never hit a home run. She imagined swinging with all her might.

"I'm scared," she told Finnigan, "but I keep trying anyway."

The pyramid glowed brighter than ever.

"That's the bravest kind of courage," the goldfish said. "Not the absence of fear, but trying anyway."

The pyramid healed, and the water sparkled with rainbow colors. Finnigan gave Maya a tiny golden scale. "Keep this. Whenever you need courage, hold it tight."

Maya woke up in her bed. Had it been a dream? But in her hand, a small golden scale shimmered.

At baseball practice that day, Maya stepped up to the plate. She was nervous, but she held the scale tight and swung with all her courage.

CRACK! The ball soared through the sky—her first home run ever.

Sometimes, Maya still looks at her pool during storms, wondering if Finnigan will appear again. But she doesn't need magic anymore. The brave girl inside her was there all along.
