The Golden Cat's Secret
Luna was a lonely girl who lived in a tall apartment building. Her only friend was Barnaby, a stuffed bear with missing button eyes and tangled brown hair that she'd combed a thousand times.
One rainy afternoon, Luna pressed her face against the foggy window and saw something extraordinary. A cat with fur as golden as sunshine sat on the thick black cable that ran between buildings. The cat looked right at her and winked!
Luna rushed outside. The golden cat leaped gracefully from the cable and landed softly beside her.
"I'm Cleo," the cat said. "And I know you're lonely, Luna."
Luna gasped. "You can talk!"
"Magic cats can do many things," Cleo purred. "Come with me."
Cleo led Luna behind the building to an old fountain where a single goldfish swam in endless circles.
"This is Goldie," Cleo said. "Make a wish."
Luna closed her eyes tight. "I wish Barnaby was real."
Goldie splashed water that sparkled like tiny stars. When Luna opened her eyes, Cleo was gone—but something moved in her backpack.
She unzipped it and Barnaby climbed out, his brown hair messy, his button eyes twinkling.
"Luna!" Barnaby hugged her. "I've always wanted to dance in the rain!"
They splashed in puddles until sunset, two best friends finally together. And sometimes, when Luna looked out her window, she'd see Cleo on the cable, golden tail waving, reminding her that magic lives wherever you believe.
From that day on, Luna was never lonely again. She had learned that the best friends aren't always the ones you expect—and that wishes really do come true, if you're brave enough to believe.
