The Golden Bull's Secret

Lily was the new girl in school, and she hadn't made a single friend yet. Every day at recess, she sat alone under the old oak tree, tracing the lines on her palm—just like her grandmother had taught her.

"Your palm tells stories," Grandma would say. "Each line is an adventure waiting to happen."

One rainy Saturday, Lily found something strange in her grandmother's attic: a tiny golden bull figurine, no bigger than her thumb. Its eyes were made of sparkling emeralds, and when Lily held it, something magical happened.

The bull blinked.

"Hello there," said the bull, his voice warm and rumbly, like distant thunder. "I'm Ferdinand. I've been waiting for someone with imagination in their palm lines."

Lily nearly dropped him. "You can talk?"

"I can do much more than talk," Ferdinand said. "Show me your palm."

Lily held out her hand. Ferdinand hopped onto her palm and began walking along her life line. With each step, he planted something tiny and green. Where he stepped, a miniature palm tree sprouted, no taller than a blade of grass.

"These are friendship trees," Ferdinand explained. "Each palm tree connects to someone who needs a friend. Tonight, when the moon rises, they'll glow. Follow the glow, and you'll never be lonely again."

That night, Lily's palm shimmered with thirty tiny lights, each from a different palm tree. She followed their glow outside, where each light floated toward someone's window—someone who needed a friend, just like her.

The next day at school, Lily saw a girl with sparkly shoes sitting alone. Remembering Ferdinand's magic, she whispered into her palm, "Help me be brave."

A warm tingle spread through her hand. She walked right up to the girl and said, "I like your shoes. Want to play tag?"

The girl's face lit up. "I'm Maria! I've been hoping someone would talk to me!"

That afternoon, Lily checked her palm. Half the tiny palm trees had disappeared—they had done their work. Ferdinand was right: the best magic is the kind that helps you make a real friend.
