The Girl With Water Hair
Lila was not like other children in her dusty village. Her hair shimmered and flowed like liquid, changing color with her moods—blue when she was calm, green when curious, silver when brave.
One scorching afternoon, while playing behind her grandmother's house, Lila spotted something strange half-buried in the sand: a small golden pyramid no bigger than her palm, glowing with an inner light.
As her fingers touched its smooth surface, the pyramid hummed warm against her skin. Then it spoke in a voice like trickling streams.
"Lila, we need your help. The Water Keeper is trapped inside the Great Pyramid, and without her, all the world's waters are drying up."
Lila's hair turned bright pink with excitement. "How can I help?"
"Only someone with hair like living water can unlock the door. Your grandmother knew this day would come. She sent the key to you."
In Lila's pocket, her grandmother's silver hair comb began to vibrate.
That night, under a sky full of stars, Lila followed the glowing pyramid's light to an ancient pyramid rising from the desert sands. Its entrance was sealed by a door of solid crystal.
The pyramid spoke again: "Place the comb in the keyhole. Then let your hair touch the crystal."
Lila's heart pounded as her hair shifted to golden yellow. She inserted the comb. The crystal door shimmered. When her water-like hair brushed against it, the door melted away like ice in sunshine.
Inside, a beautiful woman made entirely of flowing water smiled at her. "You saved me, child. Now I can return to my duties."
The Water Keeper touched Lila's forehead with a cool hand. "Your gift will always remain. Use it wisely."
That morning, Lila woke to the sound of rain falling on her roof. Her village's water pump flowed freely for the first time in months.
From that day on, whenever waters somewhere in the world were in danger, Lila's hair would turn the color of storm clouds. And she would know exactly where her help was needed.
Some gifts, she learned, are not just for ourselves—they are for everyone we love.
