The Girl With Starlight Hair
Luna had the most unusual hair in the whole village. It wasn't brown or black or golden. It was purple and sparkled like tiny stars whenever she laughed. Her grandmother said it was magic, but Luna wasn't so sure. Until the day a tiny blue dragon with scales like sapphires appeared in her bedroom window.
"Help!" squeaked the dragon, who was no bigger than Luna's palm. "My friends are trapped in the Whispering Cave!"
Luna's heart thumped. The Whispering Cave was at the top of Moonbeam Mountain, and nobody ever went there. But the dragon looked so worried.
"I'll help," Luna said bravely.
The dragon fluttered onto her shoulder as Luna began running up the mountain path. Her purple hair streamed behind her like a comet's tail, lighting up the darkening path.
"Why does your hair glow?" asked the dragon, whose name was Pip.
"I don't know," Luna admitted. "Maybe it's to help us see in the dark!"
And indeed, her shining hair guided them safely past twisted roots and slippery rocks. When they reached the cave entrance, Luna's hair illuminated three more tiny dragons trapped under a fallen rock.
"Together!" Luna commanded.
She and Pip pushed with all their might. The dragons inside squeaked encouragement. With a mighty heave, the rock rolled away!
"Thank you!" chorused the freed dragons. "Your magic hair saved us!"
Luna smiled, and her hair sparkled brighter than ever. She realized that what made her different was exactly what made her special. Sometimes the things that seem strange about us are actually our greatest gifts.
That night, Luna fell asleep with four tiny dragons curled up on her pillow, dreaming of adventures to come.
