The Girl With Moon-Hair

hairvitamindog

Lily had the most peculiar hair in all of Willow Creek. Every morning, she'd wake up to find it a different color - sometimes purple like twilight, sometimes green as new leaves, sometimes gold as morning sunshine. The other children giggled behind their hands, but Lily didn't mind. She knew her hair was magic.

One afternoon, while sitting by the creek, a scruffy little dog trotted up to her. His fur was silver as starlight, and his eyes twinkled like captured galaxies.

"I'm Barnaby," the dog said. Lily jumped - she didn't know dogs could talk!

"Your hair," Barnaby continued, "it's made of moonbeams and stardust. But it needs something special to shine its brightest."

He reached into his silver coat and pulled out a small glass jar filled with glowing crystals. "These are wonder-vitamins from the Crystal Kingdom. One each night, and your hair will show you its true magic."

That night, Lily swallowed one tiny crystal. Her hair began to glow softly, illuminating her whole room. Outside her window, she saw something amazing - her hair was casting light that made invisible things appear. She could see the fairy lights dancing in the garden, the tiny dragon sleeping under the oak tree, and the secret door hidden in the trunk.

For a week, Lily took her wonder-vitamins. Each night, her hair revealed new wonders: mermaids in the creek, pixies in the bakery, gnomes in the library.

Then Barnaby returned. "Your hair has shown you the hidden world," he said. "But the magic was inside you all along. The vitamins just helped you believe."

He touched his nose to her forehead, and she understood - her hair hadn't changed. She had changed. She had learned to look with wonder.

Now Lily helps other children see magic too. Her hair still changes colors, but now everyone knows - the girl with moon-hair can see the extraordinary hiding in ordinary places.

And sometimes, if you look closely at the moon, you might see Barnaby the star-dog, collecting more wonder-vitamins for the next dreamer who needs to believe in magic.
