The Girl With Magic Hair
Lily hated spinach. Every time her mother served those green leaves for dinner, Lily would hide them in her napkin.
One afternoon, her fluffy dog Barnaby dug furiously behind the old oak tree in their backyard.
"Barnaby! What are you doing?" Lily laughed, running over. But Barnaby had unearthed something magical—a tiny door, no bigger than a teacup, glowing with soft golden light.
Inside, they discovered a secret garden filled with sparkling spinach leaves that shimmered like emeralds. A tiny bull with magnificent rainbow hair stood guard.
"Please," said the bull, whose name was Thunder. "Our princess has lost her magic hair, and without it, our kingdom will fade away. Only someone pure of heart can restore it."
Lily wanted to help, but Thunder explained she needed to eat the magical spinach first. Lily hesitated—she hated spinach! But seeing the sadness in Thunder's kind eyes, she bravely took a bite.
It tasted like sunshine and strawberries! Suddenly, Lily's own brown hair began to glow and grow, flowing like a river of light.
With Barnaby leading the way and Thunder guiding them, Lily followed her magic hair deep underground. There they found the princess, whose hair had been stolen by a lonely shadow.
Lily didn't fight. Instead, she gave the shadow some of her magic hair.
"Everyone deserves to feel beautiful," Lily said simply.
Touched by her kindness, the shadow returned the princess's hair and transformed into a friendly night-spirit who would watch over the kingdom.
That evening, Lily sat at the dinner table. When her mother served spinach, Lily smiled and ate every bite—just in case Barnaby discovered another tiny door, and someone else needed her help.
Sometimes, she could still feel her hair tingle with magic.
