The Girl With Magic Hair

Lily hated **spinach**. Every night at dinner, she'd push the green leaves around her plate, wishing they'd disappear. But tonight was different.

When her grandma wasn't looking, Lily's curly brown **hair** began to tingle. One loose curl reached out like a tiny finger, snagged a piece of spinach, and popped it into her mouth!

"Hey!" Lily gasped. But then something amazing happened. Her legs felt light as feathers. Her feet started tapping on their own. Without thinking, she was **running**—faster than she'd ever run before! She zoomed around the kitchen table, making her grandma's cat jump three feet in the air.

"What in the world..." Grandma's eyes twinkled. "I see you've discovered the family secret."

"The what?" Lily stopped, panting.

Grandma opened her **palm**, revealing a tiny glowing green sprite no bigger than a thumb. "This is Spinachy. She's been in our family for generations. She lives in the hair of chosen children, and whenever you eat something healthy, she gives you a magical gift."

Spinachy fluttered her wings and sprinkled glitter over Lily's head.

"But why spinach?" Lily wrinkled her nose.

"Because," Grandma explained, "the things we think are boring often hide the most wonderful surprises. Like you—and your magical hair."

Lily looked at her plate differently. Maybe spinach wasn't so bad after all. Especially when it came with adventures.

That night, as Lily drifted to sleep, she felt another tingle in her curls. Spinachy was nestled there, dreaming of tomorrow's discovery. Lily smiled, wondering what other magic hid in the foods she had refused to try. Tomorrow, she decided, she'd taste the broccoli. After all, you never know what tiny sprite might be waiting to make your life extraordinary.

Sometimes, she learned, the best adventures start with something you think you won't like—even spinach.
