The Girl With Lightning Hair
Lily had the most extraordinary hair in all of Willow Creek. It wasn't yellow or brown or black like everyone else's. Her hair shimmered with streaks of silver and gold, crackling softly whenever she brushed it, as if tiny bolts of lightning were dancing through each strand.
"You're special, Lily," her grandmother always said, smiling as she combed the glowing locks. "Magic runs in our family."
One summer evening, when the sky grew dark and rumbling storms gathered overhead, Lily heard a strange splashing sound down by Mirror Lake. Curious, she tiptoed through the tall grass until she reached the water's edge.
There, shimmering in the moonlight, was the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. A magnificent bull with fur like polished pearls and horns that glowed with soft blue light stood half-submerged in the lake. But he looked sad – his head hung low, and his luminous eyes were filled with tears.
"What's wrong?" Lily whispered, stepping closer.
The water bull looked up surprised. "I'm trapped," he said softly. "A terrible storm threw me from my home in the constellation Taurus. I cannot return without the lightning's power to lift me back to the stars."
Thunder rumbled overhead. Lily's crackling hair stood on end, responding to the storm's energy.
"Maybe I can help!" Lily said. Her grandmother had taught her that her special hair could channel lightning's magic when she opened her heart.
The great storm clouds swirled above. Lily closed her eyes and thought only of kindness and friendship. Her hair began to glow brighter and brighter until – SNAP! A brilliant bolt of lightning shot down from the sky and was absorbed into her shining locks.
The magic surged through her, warm and tingling. She reached out and touched the water bull's forehead, and the lightning energy flowed into him like liquid starlight. The bull's entire body began to glow, lifting gently from the water.
"Thank you, brave friend," he called as he rose into the stormy sky, transforming into a streak of brilliant light that shot upward into the heavens. "Look for me in the night sky!"
Lily watched as the bull's light joined the stars above, forming the shape of a bull in the constellation Taurus. Her hair still crackled softly, but now it hummed with the memory of magic and friendship.
From that night on, whenever Lily looked up at the stars, the bull seemed to twinkle extra bright, as if winking at the girl who had returned him home. And she learned that the true magic wasn't in her lightning hair at all – it was in her brave and caring heart.
