The Girl with Hair Like Lightning

Maya had the most extraordinary hair in the whole world. It wasn't just curly or straight — it changed with her feelings! When she was happy, her hair bounced like golden sunshine. When she was sad, it drooped like a weeping willow. And when she was excited? Her hair crackled with static and stood straight up, just like lightning!

One stormy afternoon, Maya was running through the park when the sky suddenly turned dark purple. CRACK! A bolt of lightning split the sky, and rain poured down in buckets. Maya ducked under the shelter of a wooden bridge and peered into the stream below.

That's when she saw it — a tiny goldfish struggling against the rushing water, swimming valiantly toward a cluster of eggs trapped under a fallen leaf.

"I have to help!" Maya cried. But the current was too strong. The goldfish was getting tired, its orange scales flashing desperately in the gloom.

Maya felt something building inside her chest — a powerful, fizzing feeling like soda bubbles. The more she wanted to help, the more it grew. Her hair began to rise, crackling with tiny sparks of real lightning!

Without thinking, Maya reached her hand toward the stream. A bolt of golden lightning shot from her fingertips and zapped the water, gently pushing the fallen leaf aside. The goldfish darted through and gathered all her babies safely.

The fish swam to the surface and looked Maya right in the eye. "Thank you," she seemed to say, blowing bubbles that formed tiny heart shapes before floating away.

Maya's hair settled down, soft and warm again. She realized something wonderful: her unusual hair wasn't weird at all — it was magic. And the best kind of magic comes from helping others.

From that day on, Maya never wished for normal hair again. Instead, she ran through life looking for opportunities to use her special gift, knowing that kindness is the most powerful magic of all.
