The Girl Who Swam with Stars

Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house, her bare feet padding against the soft grass. But today was special. Grandma had told her about the Secret Pond, where magic still lived in the world.

"Follow the fireflies," Grandma had whispered with a twinkle in her eye. "They'll show you the way."

So Lily ran, her golden hair streaming behind her like sunshine caught in the wind. She ran past the old oak tree, through the patch of wild strawberries, and down the hidden path that most people never noticed.

There, glimmering in the moonlight, was a pond so clear it looked like a piece of the sky had fallen to earth.

"Hello," said a voice like water bells.

Lily gasped. A girl with flowing blue hair that moved like seaweed in a current was floating in the pond. She had the most beautiful tail, shimmering with all the colors of the ocean.

"I'm Marina," the water girl said. "Are you brave enough to go swimming with me?"

Lily had never been swimming at night before. But something about Marina's kind smile made her feel brave. She stepped into the water, and suddenly she could breathe! She was swimming deeper and deeper, surrounded by tiny glowing creatures that looked like stars fallen from the sky.

"These are star-fish," Marina explained. "They grant wishes to children with pure hearts."

Lily thought hard. She could wish for anything—more toys, endless summer vacation, or even magical powers. But then she remembered her friend Toby, who had been too scared to join the swim team because he thought he wasn't good enough.

"I wish for Toby to believe in himself," Lily said.

The star-fish swirled around her in a beautiful dance of light. The water grew warm with magic. When Lily emerged from the pond, she felt different—full of courage and wonder.

The next day, Toby joined the swim team. Lily, with her hair still smelling of pond magic, stood beside him.

"You can do this," she said, and she knew it was true.

Sometimes the bravest thing isn't going on an adventure alone. It's bringing someone else along with you.
