The Girl Who Spied on Magic

Lily loved to spy on secrets. With her wild curly hair bouncing around her face, she would peek through bushes and hide behind trees, watching for magic. Everyone said she had too much imagination, but Lily knew better.

One afternoon, while spying near the old forest, Lily discovered something extraordinary. Behind a curtain of vines was a crystal pool, shimmering like liquid diamonds. And there, drinking peacefully, was the biggest bull she had ever seen. But this wasn't an ordinary bull—his horns were made of pure silver, and his eyes twinkled like stars.

Lily held her breath. She didn't want to scare him away.

"I know you're there, little spy," the bull said gently. His voice sounded like rumbling thunder wrapped in velvet. "I'm Ferdinand. You've found my special pool."

Lily stepped out from behind the bushes. "You can talk?"

"Many things can talk," Ferdinand said wisely. "If only children would listen."

Suddenly, the water rippled. A tiny goldfish with scales like rainbow sequins popped up. "Ferdinand! You brought a friend!"

"This is Lily," said the bull. "She likes to spy on magic."

The goldfish giggled. "I'm Pearl. Would you like to see real magic, Lily?"

Pearl swam in a perfect circle, and suddenly the pool began to glow. Images appeared in the water—flowers blooming, butterflies dancing, stars singing.

"Magic isn't something you spy on," Pearl said softly. "Magic is something you share."

Lily understood. All this time, she had been watching from afar, never truly participating. "Can I visit again?"

Ferdinand nodded. "Every child needs magic. But promise us you'll bring a friend next time. Magic grows when shared."

Lily ran home, her curly hair dancing in the wind. She couldn't wait to tell her best friend about the silver-horned bull, the rainbow-scaled goldfish, and the most important lesson she had learned: some secrets are meant to be shared.
