The Girl Who Could Talk to Water
Lily had always been different. While other children played with dolls and toy cars, Lily spent her days by the river, watching the way sunlight danced on the surface. Her messy brown **hair** was always filled with tiny leaves and twigs from her adventures along the riverbank.
One hot summer afternoon, Lily was dangling her feet in the cool **water** when she heard something strange. It wasn't a splash or a bird call. It was a tiny voice, like bubbles popping.
"Hello there," the voice seemed to say.
Lily looked around. No one was there. She dipped her hand deeper into the stream, and suddenly, the water itself shimmered and formed the shape of a tiny girl made entirely of flowing blue light.
"I'm Marina!" the water girl bubbled happily. "I've been watching you. You're the only one who ever listens to the river."
From that day on, Lily and Marina were best friends. They played for hours, with Marina teaching Lily secrets of the river — how fish could swim faster than arrows, how tadpoles transformed into frogs, and how every drop of **water** had traveled from clouds to mountains to streams, all on a grand adventure.
One day, Marina looked sad. Her form grew misty and pale.
"What's wrong?" Lily asked, smoothing back her tangled **hair**.
"The river is drying up," Marina whispered. "Upstream, people have built a wall that stops the water from flowing. If it doesn't rain soon, I'll... I'll disappear."
Lily's heart hurt. She couldn't let her friend fade away! She grabbed her backpack and ran all the way to town, where she found the mayor and some workers building the wall.
"Please!" Lily cried. "The river needs to flow! My friend Marina lives there, and all the fish and plants too!"
The workers looked at each other. They hadn't realized their wall would hurt the river. Lily's words made them think differently about what they were doing.
That afternoon, they took down the wall. **Water** rushed through once more, sparkling in the sunlight.
Marina appeared stronger than ever, surrounded by leaping fish. "You saved us, Lily! You saved the whole river!"
Lily learned something important that day: even one small voice, speaking from the heart, can make a big difference. And sometimes, the best friends are the ones you find when you take time to really listen to the world around you.
Now whenever Lily goes **swimming**, she knows she's not alone. The water hugs her like an old friend, and sometimes, just sometimes, she can still hear Marina's happy voice bubbling in the waves.
