The Girl Who Could Talk to the Wind

Lila was a girl with wild, curly hair that never stayed in her braids. Her mother said it was because Lila was special, but Lila thought it was just messy.

One sunny afternoon, Lila was running through the meadow behind her house, her hair streaming behind her like a chocolate-brown flag. The wind was strong that day, and it seemed to be running right alongside her, tugging at her dress and making the grass dance in waves.

Then something magical happened. The wind whispered in her ear, "You're the fastest runner I've ever met!"

Lila stopped running and spun around. "Who said that?"

"Me! The wind!" The voice swirled around her in giggles. "I'm Zephyr, and I've been watching you run for years. Your hair tells stories when you run — it shows how happy you are!"

Lila laughed and held out her palm. The wind swirled into it, making a tiny tornado that tickled her hand. "Can we be friends?" she asked.

"Forever!" Zephyr cried. "And I know a secret — there's a golden butterfly who can grant wishes, but she only comes out when someone runs with pure joy in their heart."

So they made a plan. Every day, Lila went running through the meadow, her hair flying free, her palm raised to catch Zephyr's friendship. She ran not to win or to be fast, but because she loved feeling free.

On the seventh day, something glittery appeared. It was the golden butterfly, dancing on the breeze just ahead of her.

"You run beautifully," the butterfly said. "What's your wish?"

Lila thought carefully. She could wish for straight hair that stayed neat, or for prizes, or to be faster than anyone... but instead she said, "I wish that everyone could feel the joy of running free like I do with Zephyr."

The butterfly's wings shone even brighter. "Granted!"

From that day on, whenever children ran with joy — hair messy, palm open to catch the breeze — they could feel the wind running beside them, cheering them on. And Lila? She finally loved her wild hair, because it showed the world just how happy she was inside.

The end.
